Every 2019 Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best

4. Shazam!

Warner Bros.

Ever since Man of Steel in 2013, the DC Extended Universe has been riddled with problems and setbacks that have prevented it from reaching anything close to the success of the MCU. After power struggles between Warner Bros and Zack Snyder over, among many, many other things, the tone of the franchise, recent years seem to suggest DC are taking more inspiration from Marvel.

In 2018, the more family friendly fun style saw Aquaman become the first DCEU movie to reach one billion dollars, and in 2019 Shazam! built on the success of this tone shift.

The seventh installment in the franchise was fun filled and genuinely hilarious as Zachary Levi seemed to be having the time of his life. Since the titular character is actually a child trapped in an adult body, there is no other way to approach the movie than the almost Marvel-esque style David Sandberg chose.

Though the movie is not perfect, suffering from the familiar poor villain trope comic book movies fall victim to far too often, and the less than perfect CGI, Shazam! is absolutely a step in the right direction, allowing the franchise the opporunity to build on this success and go from strength to strength with the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad.
