Every 2019 Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best
13. The Kitchen
While DC Comics may still be way behind Marvel when it comes to cinematic success, in terms of worldwide gross and the DCEU at least, 2019 was a big year for the home of Batman and Superman. As well as releasing a certain R-Rated movie that we'll get to much later, there were numerous animated films, and one movie from DC's old subsidiary label, Vertigo.
The same publisher that introduced characters such as John Constantine, Lucifer Morningstar, and Jonah Hex, also printed the 2015 comic miniseries of the same name as its 2019 movie adaptation - The Kitchen.
Despite the casting, and strong performances of Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss, the movie feels rushed, as though racing to the finish line, relying on a few too many 1970's New York gangster tropes rather than real substance. It's easy to see what director Andrea Berloff is trying to achieve by bringing women to the front of a typically male dominated genre, but unfortunately the execution left just too much to be desired.
Rest assured, there is only one mafia movie in 2019 you need to see.
