Every Alan Partridge Project Ranked From Worst To Best
5. From The Oasthouse
In a year as difficult as 2020, Partridge’s podcast couldn’t have been more welcome. While Coogan et al have populated the Partridge universe with a lot of great characters, he has demonstrated the enviable gift of being amazingly funny and entertaining just rattling on solo.
Alan’s latest audio project comes from his pride and joy, a new period home in the Norfolk countryside. Across 18 episodes he expounds on all manner of subjects, from charities he patronises to corporate gigs, as well as Partridge staples like snack treats and medium level celebrities with whom he has beef.
The episodes are roughly 20 minutes apiece, and each offers something different. In one, he prepares for a date (giving hilarious advice on icebreakers prior to setting off); in another, a feud with an online troll leads to Partridge shifting course into a true crime podcast, before quickly dropping the idea.
It’s a testament to the sheer detail of the character, as well as Coogan’s performance, that unstructured solo Partridge can be so funny over a sustained period. This is liquid podcast.
