Every Alien Movie - Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Alien Vs. Predator

Alien 3 Sigourney Weaver

The first AVP movie is marginally better than its sequel, but that's really not saying much.

The two movies share many problems; dull humans who make stupid decisions and say stupid things, and a story that feels like an afterthought, a weak attempt to back up all the CGI monster action.

But where the original wins out, though, is that it absolutely delivers on its premise. Unlike Requiem, which spent far too much time jumping around the town to various uninteresting human subplots, AVP is, largely, about Aliens fighting Predators.

The title showdown is incredibly fun to watch when it eventually arrives, too (and the lighting actually makes it possible to see what's going on), and for a moment, you'll forget that the movie surrounding it is painfully mediocre.

For starters, the story lacks consistency. In one flashback scene, a handful of Predators are shown battling hundreds and hundreds of Aliens with no trouble whatsoever, but in the rest of the movie, the Predators are shown struggling against just a handful.

But, again, it all comes down to the human characters. From the second they're introduced, you know everybody is cannon fodder, which means not a single one of them will register with you.

Alien Vs. Predator would probably be better off as a ten minute short film that showcases a battle between the two titular beasts. That's the only interesting thing about the movie, but there just isn't enough of it to make the rest of the experience worthwhile.
