Every Avenger's Best Performance OUTSIDE The MCU
4. Scarlett Johansson - Jojo Rabbit
As the token female Avenger for what felt like years, it was great to see Scarlett Johansson's role as Black Widow evolve from eye-candy to the sensible big sister of the world-saving team.
Johansson sold her role brilliantly as the (let's be honest here) second-in-command of the Avengers squad, and while she has departed from the franchise, it's good to know that her own solo film is (eventually) coming out.
Amidst the MCU, Johansson has probably been one of the most prolific cast members outside the franchise. Her roles have been broad and diverse (but not in THAT way, she has caught flack for that!) and she has displayed her acting chops brilliantly. But it was last year's role as single mother Rosie in Jojo Rabbit, that has blown so many people away.
She's immediately funny and charming as the mother of a precocious and adventurous child, and her playful nature is one half big sister to little Jojo, and one half the heartwarming anchor that inevitably turns the tide of the story. Johansson finds corners of the role no other actor could have discovered, and she plays it with such tragedy stricken earnest that it's all the more devastating when we see where her story ends.
