Every Avenger's Best Performance OUTSIDE The MCU
16. Dave Bautista - Blade Runner 2049
Typically, when a professional wrestler starts making waves in mainstream movies, audiences don't expect Shakespearean monologues.
With the exception of a small few, not many wrestlers have transcended outside the ring onto the big screen successfully. And while John Cena and Dwayne Johnston immediately spring to mind, we have to give props to Dave Bautista for not only breaking into Hollywood, but doing a damn good job of it in the process.
He was the unexpected delight as Drax The Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, and since then his film prospects have been exciting. And it was his role in Blade Runner 2049, as an old Nexus-8 replicant called Sapper Morton that is really worth examining.
Despite Bautista's size and scowling face, it was his polite and quiet demeanour that catches audiences off-guard. Audiences know Bautista is a big guy, and cast for physical content, but what he brings to the role outside of that is an earnest sorrow that should have come from a more seasoned actor.
It was his performance in Blade Runner 2049, that no doubt got him his role in Denis Villeneuve's next film, Dune. And for good reason, Sapper Morton proved he was a capable character actor.
