Every Avenger's Best Performance OUTSIDE The MCU
14. Anthony Mackie - Black Mirror: Striking Vipers
Since his debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie's role as Falcon has been wildly understated. Always never too far away from Steve Rogers (except maybe when he turned to dust), the winged soldier has been a fun addition to the team and I can't be the only one who's hoping to see how Falcon favors in his buddy-series with Bucky Barnes in their Disney+ series.
But for Anthony Mackie as an actor, he was kicking arse long before his role in the MCU with films like The Hurt Locker and as far back as 8 Mile. But it was in a recent episode of Black Mirror that audiences saw a more complicated, less aggressive side to him.
The whole plot of Black Mirror's Striking Vipers is an unpredictable one, and in the beginning, it looks like Mackie's role is to play the out-of-touch husband living a contented life. What spirals into questions of sexuality and doubting ones personal identity, really asks a lot from an actor and Anthony Mackie sells the heck out of the performance.
In the divisive fifth season of Black Mirror, Striking Vipers is by far the best and it's primarily thanks to Mackie and his on-screen charisma.
