Every Avenger's Best Performance OUTSIDE The MCU

12. Benedict Cumberbatch - Sherlock

Benedict Cumberbatch's addition to the MCU seemed inevitable right around the time of Sherlock's second season. As the show gained more fans and attention, so did the series' two main stars who became very sought after.

Not that I'm complaining. Benedict Cumberbatch makes a great Doctor Strange, and while he's still fresh in the MCU, he's already made a huge impact as one of the franchise' most unique and powerful characters.

And circling his back catalogue of work is hard to pinpoint his greatest work, since he dives into his characters so passionately, but perhaps his best role outside the MCU is also the one he is still currently most famous for.

The modernised take of Sherlock Holmes was enthralling enough, but what really interests viewers is Cumberbatch's quick delivery of dialogue, his blank sociopathic stare, and his scene-stealing outbursts. Because he was the lead, viewers were already engaged with the character of Sherlock, but the clever writing (at least in the beginning) and neat twists of the series kept people hooked throughout.

Had Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed a less engaging performance, I'd even go so far as to say he wouldn't have as much clout as he does right now.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
