Every Batman Movie Ending Ranked From Worst To Best
6. Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm begins with numerous mob bosses in Gotham being murdered. Almost immediately, the city's criminal underworld become convinced Batman is behind it, unaware the culprit is a new vigilante called The Phantasm. When our titular hero investigates this masked killer, he discovers the Phantasm is Andrea Beaumont - Bruce Wayne's first love.
In the end, Andrea heads to the World's Fair to slaughter her father's killer, the Joker. When Batman tries to stop her, all three of them get involved in a chaotically turbulent conflict.
Even though the animation is great throughout the film, sequence director, Kevin Altieri, cranked it up a notch in this final brawl. Every punch and kick looks like it actually hurts. The expressions are animated so well, you know what each character is thinking, even when they aren't speaking.
After the Joker and Andrea seemingly die in an explosion, Alfred consoles Bruce, telling him he couldn't have saved her, physically or psychologically. Even though Alfred has given a million pep-talks, Efrem Zimblaist Jr's performance and the stellar script make this speech one of his absolute best.
When Bruce's discovers Andrea's locket, proving she's alive, Bruce does not go to her, accepting she's beyond saving. Donning his cowl and cape, Batman stands on a rooftop, preparing his nightly patrol in Gotham.
