Every Batman Movie Ending Ranked From Worst To Best
4. The Batman
Matt Reeves' The Batman centres around Bruce Wayne going head-to-head with a Zodiac-inspired killer called Edward Nashton AKA The Riddler. As Nashton successfully kills several of Gotham's figureheads, Batman becomes more unhinged, believing the murder spree will tear the city apart.
Sadly, that's exactly what happens. After Riddler's bombs detonate, the city is flooded, which traps the mayor during her presentation, making her an easy target for Riddler's goons.
Batman saves the mayor but is shook to his core when he hears one of Nashton's men say, "I am vengeance!". Because this is exactly what Batman said to a group of thugs earlier, he realises his methods at protecting the city are flawed. Instead of making criminals live in fear, he should have instilled hope in the people of Gotham.
When one of the survivor's of Nashton's attack grabs onto Batman's arm, he stares at her uncertainly. Although he chose not to react earlier in the film when he had the opportunity to console another of Nashton's victim, the titular character takes this woman's hand to put her fears at rest. Not only does moment highlight our hero's ability to inspire, but his ability to evolve as a superhero and as a human being.
