Every Batman Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

9. Batman: The Movie

Batman and Robin The Dark Knight The Batman
Twentieth Century-Fox

Though the Adam West Batman era is often perceived as an object of ridicule by modern audiences, it's important to remember that it was totally in on the joke.

1966's Batman: The Movie couldn't have its tongue lodged any further in its cheek without burrowing through: this is a shamelessly campy farce of a superhero movie, and one that's tremendously entertaining every step of the way.

Adam West and Burt Ward are again fantastic in the roles of Batman and Robin, even if the show is categorically stolen by the bevy of villains - The Joker (Cesar Romero), The Penguin (Burgess Meredith), The Riddler (Frank Gorshin), and Catwoman (Lee Meriwether).

This is a film where Batman battles a shark with bat-shark repellent and runs down a pier with an oversized bomb - to sneer at it for being silly and earnest is really to miss the point.

It may seem like a dusty relic in our more cynical, nihilistic present, but accepted within its own context it holds up extremely well.
