8. The Lego Batman Movie

If 2017's The Lego Batman Movie quickly came and went without making much of a pop-culture impact - despite netting an impressive $300 million worldwide - that's no real indicator of its quality.

Following The Lego Movie's irreverent, visually creative lead, this Bat-centric spin-off manages to be a love-letter to both the titular building blocks and the Caped Crusader without feeling like a totally crass branding exercise.

Will Arnett is again terrific as his firmly parodical take on Batman and Zack Galifianakis kills it as The Joker, but what really makes the movie sing is its clear, unabashed fondness for just about every era and iteration of Batman - yes, even the Schumacher years.

It's never above ribbing even the better Batman films, and manages to incorporate an assortment of other pop-culture characters without ever becoming a tireless exercise in nostalgia-bait.

Given the sheer volume of visual details crammed into every single frame - including a pile of smart Easter eggs - repeat viewings are basically mandatory.
