Every Ben Affleck Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

33. Live By Night (2016)

Second only to Batman v Superman in the disappointment stakes is Live by Night, his fourth directorial effort and follow-up to Best Picture Oscar winner Argo.

As such, many simply assumed that Affleck's period crime thriller would be a major awards player in 2017, yet the end result was a shockingly mediocre, oddly forgettable romp.

The performances are all fine and it certainly looks nice enough, but script is king, and despite drawing from Dennis Lehane's acclaimed source material, this never rose above feeling like just another cookie-cutter gangster flick.

Again not terrible, but so bafflingly characterless and anodyne that few are likely to have strong feelings about it either way.
