Every Ben Affleck Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
22. The Company Men (2010)
You certainly can't accuse John Wells' modest drama of being anything other than well-intentioned, releasing in the wake of the 2008 financial collapse and centering around a trio of white-collar workers (Affleck, Chris Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones) struggling to cope with being laid off.
There's a pleasant straight-forwardness to this drama about the self-worth people ascribe to their jobs, the utterly soul-destroying nature of the job hunt, and how painful it can be to start over in older age.
The entire cast turns in fine work - also Kevin Costner and Maria Bello - and though some might take umbrage with the central characters suffering far less than most during the economic downturn, there's nevertheless a certain universality to the story.
