Every Best Actor Oscar Movie Winner Of The 21st Century Ranked

16. Colin Firth - The King's Speech (2010)

Capote Philip Seymour Hoffman
Momentum Pictures

Who should have won: Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network.

Colin Firth has always been one of our best actors, bringing infectious charm and style to a whole host of characters throughout his illustrious career, but it's his turn as awkward, stuttering King George VI that stands as perhaps his finest hour.

Stripped of his usual confidence, Firth's performance is vulnerable, self-aware, and amusing, allowing George's weaknesses and insecurities to make him endearing and wonderfully easy to root for. When on-screen with the equally brilliant Geoffrey Rush, his performance becomes even more conflicted and captivating.

Like The King's Speech scooping Best Picture over The Social Network, Firth's performance doesn't quite touch Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of vindictive FaceBook founder Mark Zuckerberg, but hell if its amiability isn't impossible to love.
