Every Best Actor Oscar Movie Winner Of The 21st Century Ranked
15. Jamie Foxx - Ray (2004)
Who should have won: Leonardo DiCaprio - The Aviator.
It's hard to imagine any other actor bringing Ray Charles to life as Jamie Foxx did. Putting himself through hell to capture the music legend's mannerisms and various quirks, Foxx's physical transformation is a masterclass of commitment and daring.
But there's more to his performance than the physicality. Under the energetic movements and colourful wardrobe, Foxx also exudes charisma and sexiness, under which he has no trouble digging into Charles' hardships and vices whenever the film gives him room to breathe.
The film suffocates him here-and-there, burying him in a formulaic biopic that never reaches his level and never lets him go all-out, but Jamie Foxx overcomes enough of its flaws to emerge a force of nature who's never been better since.
