Every Bond Movie Theme Song Ranked Worst To Best
11. Tomorrow Never Dies By Sheryl Crow
The second film of the Brosnan era was a fun enough exercise in escapist fun without ever aspiring for greatness. The same can be said for the title song penned and performed by Sheryl Crow, a rather lightweight choice of artist in the grand scheme of 'Bond artists'. The song is a catchy little number which is beautifully composed, with variations between larger than life orchestral piece and sweet love song. Crow displays strong intimacy in her lyrics, although she does struggle to pull off the high notes of the chorus.
The producers for Tomorrow Never Dies actually had two quality songs to choose from, with Canadian artist KD Lang writing and producing an equally strong number. Lang's song 'Surrender', which played over the final credits, was not as nuanced as Crow's piece, but had a more traditional 'Bond feel' and would have been equally worthy for the title song.
Crow did cop some criticism for not releasing the single in the states, a bizarre decision that really made no sense whatsoever. This was a blow to the publicity campaign in her home country and may have had the Bond Producers wishing they'd used KD Lang's song as the title track instead.
