Every Bond Movie Theme Song Ranked Worst To Best
8. Diamonds Are Forever By Shirley Bassey
After the rather lukewarm reception for George Lazenby's one off performance as everyone's favourite British spy, the producers opened up the chequebook to lure Sean Connery back for one more go at the role he was famous for. With Connery on board ,the producers also decided to bring back an old favourite for the title song, with Shirley Bassey's dulcet and alluring tones returning. While Connery gave a serviceable return to action in spite of a limp script, Bassey gave a powerhouse performance that rises above the script's mediocrity.
Bassey brings a degree of femininity to this song, describing the diamonds as if she is almost making love to them. Even if you were not a diamond girl (or guy), it's hard not to be effected by the emotive way in which Bassey seduces us, presumably boosting diamond sales around the world. Bassey utilises her falsettos effortlessly once more to make the song buzz with energy, before the tune takes a left turn, rocking out to its conclusion.
Connery and Bassey both would return for one last foray in Bond films, Connery for the unofficial Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again, while Bassey gave it her all for the ho-hum Moonraker number.
