Every Bond Movie Theme Song Ranked Worst To Best
16. Moonraker by Shirley Bassey
Shirley Bassey proved to be a staple of James Bond, her iconic recordings of 007 classics as synonymous with the Connery era as Aston Martins and Q. Bassey was roped in for one last time to sing the anthem for the absolutely bonkers Roger Moore flick Moonraker, which outrageously finishes with a battle in space. The over the top nature of the film was in contrast to the rather laid baid and lacklustre title track.
In one of the film's better moments, Bond spectacularly finds a way to survive after jumping out of a plane without a parachute in the pre credit sequence. To have this dreary number immediately follow was a poor choice that was another example of narrative momentum and excitement being stilted by poor song selection.
The song could quite justifiably have been ranked much worse on this list except for the beautiful vocals of Bassey. The song doesn't give her many moments to shine, but she still manages to hit every note to perfection, oozing a sexuality like no other singer could. While many singers can bring out the best in great hits, it takes another class of singer to make a bad song seem ok. Bravo Shirley, bravo.
