Every Christopher Nolan Movie Ranked Worst To Best
5. Interstellar (2014)
Almost every director in history has a black sheep in their filmography, an outlier which is simultaneously adored and reviled; Interstellar is Nolan's divisive gem, his Last Jedi, the film that audiences and critics alike use to either criticise his quirks or praise his craftmanship.
Essentially all the negative reception Interstellar has faced since its release has been unwarranted. Sure, the last act is maddeningly complex, and it's easy to shun Nolan's tearjerkingly sentimental script, but the truth is this sci-fi epic is Nolan at the absolute height of his powers, both narratively and thematically.
The story of a family man thrust into space to save humanity from ecological disaster, Interstellar is Nolan at his most ambitious and humanist. It puts love and family front-and-centre, and around these themes crafts a tale of heroism and an almost overwhelming amount of visual beauty.
It may be too emotionally charged or alienating for some, but Interstellar is surely one of the most daring and lonely sci-fi films ever made, produced by a man with his heart on his sleeve and his eyes on the stars.
