Every Christopher Nolan Movie Ranked Worst To Best

6. Memento (2000)

Oppenheimer Bomb
Summit Entertainment

For many fans, Memento will always be the quintessential Christopher Nolan movie; a breakneck thriller that captures every ounce of his obsessions, fixations and storytelling finesse.

At once breathtakingly complex and yet very simple, the film follows a man whose memory keeps mysteriously resetting, a phenomenon which makes it difficult for him to hunt down his late wife's murderer. Aided only by tattooed clues and some frantic notes, he works tirelessly to a heartbreaking conclusion.

Told in non-linear order, Memento is a complex yarn as only Nolan could make, twisting expectation and reality at every turn. It also features Guy Pearce in perhaps his greatest role, portraying a desperate man with such sympathy and elusiveness that without him the film's final twist may never have worked.

On any other day, Memento could have been number one on this list, which should just go to show how excellent Nolan's career has been. Just two films in, and he'd already crafted a masterclass that, in many ways, he's rarely topped since. And it's not even in the top five!
