Every Cillian Murphy Movie Ranked Worst To Best
16. Disco Pigs (2001)
In Disco Pigs, an adaptation of Enda Walsh's play of the same name, Murphy stars as the violent, emotionally scarred Pig, a 17-year-old dreamer obsessed with his only friend, Runt (Elaine Cassidy).
A doomed love story as well as a coming-of-age fable, Disco Pigs is dark and surreal, and Murphy is its emotional engine. As Pig, he's vicious and cruel, selfish and uncertain, and yet behind his volatile behaviour lies a scared child never given a chance.
It's a difficult role, one few could have played so well, but Murphy has Pig down to a flawless degree - brash, lost, wounded - and the results are remarkable. Even if, it should be said, the film itself can never match what he brings to the table.
