Every Coen Brothers Movie Ranked Worst To Best

14. Hail, Caesar! (2016)

Inside Llewyn Davis
Universal Pictures

Hail, Caesar! features the Coen Brothers' most impressive ensemble cast, with the likes of Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Frances McDormand and more turning up to get in on the action.

Following Brolin's tough Hollywood "fixer" Eddie Mannix, the comedy-drama takes a deep and daring dive into the seedy, complicated underbelly of the movie industry. With a wonderful, witty screenplay and a great number of brilliant performances (Clooney's dopey actor is a particular stand-out), Hail, Caesar! has all the trademarks of a Coen Brothers classic.

The reason it's let down in the rankings comes down to how disjointed the plot sometimes ends up being, with far too many scenes feeling forced into place with little narrative purpose, and though the dialogue keeps things from falling completely flat, the inconsistencies of the main plot often threaten to trip everything up by the time the credits roll.
