Every Coen Brothers Movie Ranked Worst To Best
11. Burn After Reading (2008)
Another of the Coen Brothers' most underrated flicks, Burn After Reading is a dark comedy of the highest order. Strange, wonderfully acted and thrilling, it follows two bizarre gym employees (Frances McDormand and a rarely-better Brad Pitt) who get their hands on some classified CIA secrets from a former agent (John Malkovich) who is writing a memoir about his time with the agency.
Sporting a slew of great characters courtesy of Pitt, McDormand, Malkovich, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton and Richard Jenkins, Burn After Reading watches like a standard thriller but also features some serious laughs. Pitt in particular is a stand-out in the flick, playing the hopeless, dopey personal trainer Chad with absolute joy.
It may not be the most thoughtful of the Brothers' collection, but it is certainly one of their funniest yarns, and has more than enough strong points keeping it elevated above others on this list. It's let down in much the same way as O Brother, as gleefully entertaining as it may be, it's lacking the depth of their other films.
