Every David Fincher Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
1. The Social Network
Top spot on this list goes to the film that in many ways is the most un-Fincher like, a grounded character study that lets its anti-hero protagonist be the star of the show. Sure, The Social Network is beautifully shot and the sound design is something else, especially in that nightclub scene, but this film works so well because it is the most incisive Biopic ever created.
The Social Network expertly chronicles the creation and rise of Facebook while providing a detailed exploration of the hurt and pain Mark Zuckerberg caused along the way. Jesse Eisenberg is astonishing as Zuckerberg, taking the audience on a journey with this truly unlikeable character, managing to have us despising but ultimately pitying the Facebook creator. Eisenberg's own quirky mannerisms succeeds in bringing to life a man who will never admit his shortcomings, arguing to the death that he is right even when there is clearly no case to be made.
The screenplay is outstanding, allowing for us to truly invest in events that essentially boils down to being a legal battle between a bunch of super rich kids. There are some novelties taken with the book, but they are not used in a malicious manner, but instead to emphasise the true nature of the man behind the biggest Social Network empire.
The final message that extreme wealth comes at a human cost that is simply not worth paying is one that resonates even more in today's climate. A true masterpiece of a film, and Fincher's finest
