Despite the first film's critical mauling, Suicide Squad had its fans and made Warner Bros some money, so a sequel was always coming, particularly since they'd nailed their "critics don't matter" agenda to the door so obviously. Going back on that by dropping the sequel would have been a betrayal.

For that sequel, Gavin O'Connor has been hired and now David Bar Katz and Todd Tashwick (Gotham) are in as writers, so it's all heading forwards. Quite who the Squad will be remains to be seen, but you'd think it'll at least include the members who are currently locked away after the end of the first movie.

Will It Happen?

Absolutely. It's on its way as one of the most assured DCEU additions, whether you like it or not.
