6. Justice League - $657.9 Million

The Suicide Squad
Warner Bros.

There is no greater example of the dysfunctional nature of Warner Bros. and the DC Extended Universe than Justice League. This was supposed to be their big 'Avengers moment', but it fell completely flat for a whole host of reasons, and while it still brought in over $650 million, it reportedly lost the studio money.

While the MCU treated The Avengers as an exciting crossover and milestone in the franchise’s storytelling, Warner Bros. treated Justice League like a cash cow. Zack Snyder was handcuffed and constantly hamstrung, with the studio giving the audacious demand that the film clock in at less than two hours.

When Snyder had to step away from the project due to tragic circumstances, Warner Bros. inexplicably brought in Joss Whedon to finish the movie to try and reach a more mainstream audience. This resulted in a reported $25 million worth of reshoots, and a movie that was at war with itself in terms of tone, pleasing nobody.

Warner Bros. needed Justice League to bring in a ton of money in order to break even, but it fell short thanks to a combination of studio interference, alienated audiences, and the fact that the movie just simply wasn’t that good.
