Every DCEU Movie Ranked By Box Office Success

5. Man Of Steel - $668 Million

The Suicide Squad
Warner Bros.

Eight years ago, before the DCEU was an established franchise, and before there was ever any controversial meddling from Warner Bros., Man of Steel was the new take on one of the most instantly recognizable characters in the history of comic books and larger pop culture.

Seven years after the release of Superman Returns, Henry Cavill took on the cape, though his first outing was met with mixed responses, to say the least. The action was a strong point of the movie, however many were turned off by the unexpected dark tone for the character.

Yet still, the intrigue surrounding a new Superman and how he would be handled filled seats in cinemas at least for the opening weekend. The MCU had reinvented the comic book genre in Hollywood, and the hype around superheroes extended from Marvel to DC in 2013.

While the $668 million Man of Steel pulled in is more than any other solo Superman movie before it, after an impressive opening weekend of $116.6 million, it reportdely saw a decline of 65-68% for its second weekend. Clearly the pull of a new Superman movie couldn’t outweigh reviews of the movie itself.
