Every DCEU Movie Ranked By Box Office Success

4. Suicide Squad - $746.8 Million

The marketing department of Suicide Squad did a simply phenomenal job back in 2016. The trailers made it look as though the movie would be a fun-filled, exciting superhero blockbuster, not unlike James Gunn’s reimagining of the franchise five years later. However, what was actually brought to screen couldn’t have been further from what was promised.

In spite of early reviews, and following the disappointing Dawn of Justice, fans still flocked to the cinemas to see what could have been a Guardians of the Galaxy-esque outing for the DCEU, and to see the latest iteration of the Joker eight years after Heath Ledger’s iconic role in The Dark Knight.

As this simply wasn’t what was given to cinema-goers, like with Man of Steel, the movie saw a significant drop in its second weekend sales. This was even worse than Henry Cavill’s Superman movie, as it reportedly achieved the second highest second weekend drop off in summer history.

Despite the ticket sales falling off a cliff, thanks to the success of its opening week, there is no doubt that Suicide Squad was a box office success. This is unequivocal proof that box office gross and a movie’s quality are not necessarily correlated.
