Every Disney Animated Movie Since 2000 - Ranked

8. Bolt

The Disney Revival - kickstarted by The Princess And The Frog - continued in 2009 with the release of Bolt. Another all-CGI animated adventure, its plot revolves around the eponymous dog who believes he has superpowers after watching too much television.

John Travolta is perfectly cast as the voice of Bolt, and this is one of Disney's liveliest movies to date. There's more than a hint of Pixar's playfulness in the script, too - it's not surprising to discover that John Lasseter had a hand in the project, this being another film he worked on with Disney as chief creative officer.

Bolt often gets overlooked when appraising the Disney animated movies of the 21st century, but it's a solidly told story, lean in all the right places and with a lightness of touch often missing from mainstream animation. It's also the only children-friendly animated film featuring a visual style inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper, which isn't something you see very often.
