Every Disney Animated Movie Since 2000 - Ranked
9. Tangled
It's fitting that Disney's fiftieth animated feature was also their most expensive to date (and the most expensive animated film of all time). Blending CGI and traditional animation, Tangled is certainly one of their most visually interesting movies, not least for the lush and fluid animation of heroine Rapunzel's magnificent hair.
Adapted from the famous story Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm, Tangled is firmly in the territory of classic Disney, featuring a princess eager to escape the confines of the tower in which she has been imprisoned so she can explore the outside world. With its medieval setting and colourful vistas, it bears a resemblance in tone to Dreamworks' Shrek movies (including humorous animal characters, which have long been a staple of Disney movies).
There was some controversy over the title of the film, which was changed from Rapunzel to Tangled before its release to appeal to a broader audience. These quibbles certainly didn't affect its box office performance, and Tangled remains one of the most successful Disney films of all time.
