Every Francis Ford Coppola Movie Ranked Worst To Best
14. Youth Without Youth (2007)
Youth Without Youth signalled the return of Coppola to the directing chair after a ten-year absence, and remains to date his most challenging movie. At its core, a linguistics professor (Tim Roth) finds himself aging backwards after getting struck by lightning, and goes on an epic journey of self-discovery that takes him halfway around the world.
The film gets a stellar performance out of the always-great Tim Roth, and sports enough thought-provoking musings about life, the universe and everything to make it a great journey.
Unfortunately, Coppola's insistence on cramming as much philosophy into the film as humanly possible lets it down toward the end, as it becomes increasingly difficult to follow or understand. There's enough there to make it a unique and intriguing endeavor, but not nearly enough to boost the finished product to greatness.
