Every Francis Ford Coppola Movie Ranked Worst To Best
13. The Rainmaker (1997)
One of the more buried gems of Coppola's career, The Rainmaker sits firmly as one of the better 90s legal dramas that casts an idealistic lawyer (in this case, Matt Damon's Rudy Baylor) against a crooked system.
As a courtroom drama, the film is both predictable and nothing new, but what makes it such an low-key standout is its colourful cast of characters. Rudy is young and fiery, falling in love with an abuse survivor (Claire Danes) whilst taking on a shady lawyer (Jon Voight) and America's need for health care reform.
Thanks to its cast and the development of its characters, The Rainmaker is an outlier classic of Coppola's impressive oeuvre, and though it doesn't do much new from a narrative standpoint, its character-driven emotional centre makes it simply divine.
