Every Francis Ford Coppola Movie Ranked Worst To Best

20. You're A Big Boy Now (1966)

The Godfather 2 Robert De Niro
Warner Bros. Pictures

You're A Big Boy Now was Coppola's thesis at UCLA, made on a tight budget that (as would be a typical trait of the director's biggest films) was completely shattered by the time the movie was finished.

Based on the novel of the same name by David Benedictus, the film follows 19-year-old Bernard (Peter Kastner) as he attempts to escape his overbearing parents and find his own source of personal independence.

There are some decent slices of comedy scattered throughout the film, mainly thanks to Kastner's confident performance, but the narrative is too loose and out of control for the story to leave much of a mark. There's a great, thoughtful movie in there somewhere, but Coppola isn't willing to find it.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
