Friday The 13th Part 3
Paramount Pictures

Steve Miner became the only Friday the 13th director to date to call the shots on a second series entry when he returned for 1982's third instalment. Now, as we've established, this is not a series that thrives on innovation, but it does lean pretty heavily on novelty value, and so - a year before Jaws 3-D pulled off the same trick - Friday the 13th Part 3 did a funny play on the title and went out to cinemas in old school red-and green 3D, which was enjoying a resurgence at the time.

We've all heard James Cameron and co drone on about how contemporary digital 3D allows for 'immersion,' 'image depth' and all that - but let's be honest, the main appeal of 3D has always been to create the illusion that stuff is flying off the screen into the audience's face. Friday the 13th Part 3 revels in this approach, shooting as much stuff directly at the camera lens as possible, from washing poles and yo-yos to harpoons and, perhaps most memorably, an eyeball.

On top of all this, though, Friday the 13th Part 3 did finally hit upon the key component that would define the franchise from that point on: ditching the nondescript white sack, and giving Jason the hockey mask which would become his signature.
