Despite arriving with little fanfare at the beginning of the year, Ritchie's new film just might be one of his very best - and certainly his best in a long time.

Though it's undeniably familiar territory for the director and not particularly ambitious, The Gentlemen benefits enormously from its fantastic ensemble cast - especially Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell - and some of Ritchie's most inspired writing of the last two decades.

Some cringe-worthily un-PC moments aside, it's a remarkable fusion of slick writing, charismatic actors, and expert editing to deliver a throwback gangster flick with just enough of a contemporary edge to satisfy.

It probably won't end up one of the director's more iconic or memorable films, but after spending far too long away from the gangster genre, it's a welcome return home for sure.
