Every Guy Ritchie Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

4. RocknRolla

RocknRolla was Ritchie's return to the Brit gangster flick after almost a decade away, following the back-to-back flops that were Swept Away and Revolver. Mercifully, it was a major return to form for the director, scoring his best reviews and box office since 2000's Snatch.

Rocknrolla boasts arguably the strongest cast of any Ritchie movie, with the likes of Gerard Butler, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Tom Wilkinson, Toby Kebbell, Thandie Newton, Jeremy Piven, and Gemma Arterton along for the ride.

And Ritchie certainly rises to the occasion, because while he repeats a lot of the themes and ideas from his first two gangster films, there's also a uniqueness to this film's tone.

It's a much nastier affair with some boundary-pushing elements which, while not always successful, are at least fairly ambitious for the genre, yet without deigning to Revolver levels of pomposity.

The cast is well-utilised, it's frequently hilarious, and edited with an appealing hyperactivity that just barely stops short of being exhausting. Not Ritchie's best, but certainly a breath of fresh air after spending most of the 2000s out on the skids.
