Every Halloween Movie Ranked Worst To Best After Halloween Kills
4. Halloween II (1981)
Taking place directly after the first film as Laurie recovers from her injuries in hospital, Halloween II is a rare horror sequel that doesn't cheapen its predecessor's success.
Claustrophobic and blood-soaked, ramping up the violence to an almost unbearable degree, it moves with the pace of a patient hunter, as if directed by Michael Myers himself, and adds great depth to Strode's traumatising tale of unlikely survival.
It's not without its flaws (few films are), following many of the same narrative beats as its predecessor and therefore lacking its initial shock, but Halloween II is still a hit through-and-through, brutal and gloriously atmospheric in all the right places.
From here, it would mostly be downhill, but at least this early in the game Halloween still understands its own strengths.
