Every James Bond Main Villain Ranked Worst To Best
3. Alec Trevelyan - GoldenEye
There is no question that Sean Bean has a gift for playing irredeemable scoundrels. He's so good as Goldeneye's villain, Alec Trevelyan, he can make the line, "Lovely girl. Tastes like strawberries." sound terrifying.
When he talks about his tragic backstory, it could've come across as a typical villain monologue in the hands of a less experienced actor. But with Sean Bean in the role, it's impossible not to feel empathy when he talks about how he lost his parents.
But it's not just Bean's incredible performance that makes Trevelyan work but the script. Instead of being another generic tyrant, Trevelyan was a former double-0 agent. Because he has the same training as Bond, he's among the few that can match 007 in a fight, which he proves in the show-stopping climax.
But the most interesting thing about Trevelyan is the fact that he was Bond's friend and worked alongside him on several missions. Even though the film, SPECTRE, tried to make Bond have a personal connection with the villain, it was messy and forced.
But in GoldenEye, the relationship between the two is spot on.
