Because Moonraker is regarded as one of, if not, the worst film in the franchise, most viewers don't have fond memories of the antagonist, Hugo Drax.

However, Michael Lonsdale is probably the best thing in the whole dull affair. He has a fine balance of being larger than life and yet, still believable - a talent that the most experienced actors have difficulty performing in the franchise. Even though his plan of wiping out humanity and having the survivors living on a space station sounds like it was devised by Lex Luthor, Lonsdale's sincere performance makes this deranged scheme work.

The way he menacingly commands his minions without raising his voice is difficult to do but Lonsdale pulls it off with ease. Drax is not an incredible baddie but the fact that he comes across as sinister through all the silliness in Moonraker is a testament to Lonsdale's acting talents.
