To say that Daniel Craig's time as James Bond was a revelation would be a massive disservice to what he achieved in fifteen years and five films as the incomparable spy. He reinvented the character without missing a beat, and the thought of anyone following in his footsteps is a daunting one.

Starting with 2006's gritty action-thriller Casino Royale, Craig made it clear to weary audiences that they had never seen anything like this Bond before. Adopting a more violent edge than most of his predecessors but maintaining the spy's seductive charm, he was Bond right out the gate.

But for all the work Craig put into the role behind-the-scenes, for all the action-heavy carnage he managed to cause and all the antagonists he had to face, the best part of his performance came from how unguarded and flawed he made 007.

Craig was the most perhaps the most violent, uncompromising Bond the franchise has ever seen, but also its most three-dimensional and painfully human, allowing him to dig into the complexities of the man whilst reminding audiences just how tough he could be.

It was a hard juggling act to be sure, but one Craig pulled off without trouble, making him the best Bond there's ever been. Well, almost...
