Every James Bond Movie Pre-Credits Scene Ranked Worst To Best

11. The Man With The Golden Gun - Scaramanga Kills An American Gangster In His Funhouse

James Bond Goldeneye Opening
MGM/UA

Another pre-credits scene that doesn't actually feature Bond at all (aside from a model of him in Scaramanga's funhouse), this one - in which main antagonist Francisco Scarmanga (Christopher Lee) has a duel to the death with gangster Rodney (Marc Lawrence) - is pretty darn weird... but very effective nonetheless.

The battle in the fun-house is very trippy, unnerving and suspenseful thanks to clever visuals and strong pacing; one gets the sense this might've been inspired by the brilliant fun-house finale in Orson Welles' The Lady from Shanghai, which is a lovely touch if that's the case.

It makes for a very entertaining opening that immediately grabs viewers and does a fine job of establishing the movie's villain. Come to think of it, this is easily one of the best parts of this instalment, which is probably the single most mediocre film of the series.
