Every James Bond Movie Pre-Credits Scene Ranked Worst To Best

19. You Only Live Twice - Blofeld Steals An American Rocket And Bond Fakes His Own Death

James Bond Goldeneye Opening
MGM/UA

This is a pre-credits scene of two halves, one better than the other.

The opening space scene, in which Blofeld steals an American spaceship and thus causes tension between the United States and Russia, is pretty good. The space effects have aged very well and it sets up the story nicely, although Blofeld's rocket-swallowing spaceship is a bit too ridiculous to take seriously.

The second part, with Bond faking his death after a love session with MI6 agent Ling (Tsai Chin), is weaker. Bond faking his death should've felt weightier than it ultimately did and the dialogue between him and Ling ("Why do Chinese girls taste different from all other girls?") is pretty cringe-worthy.

In other words, it's a very mixed bag of an opening.
