Every James Wan Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Death Sentence

Malignant Saw Aquaman
20th Century Fox

Released the same year as Dead Silence, Death Sentence was the first inkling that Wan was interested in genres beyond horror, delivering a down-and-dirty throwback to scuzzy '70s revenge thrillers.

Kevin Bacon stars as Nick Hume, a businessman whose son is murdered by gangsters and sets about exacting bloody revenge against them.

Death Sentence doesn't have a surprising bone in its body, but it is an appealingly lurid, bloody revenge flick topped by a committed Kevin Bacon performance.

Wan's third feature also demonstrates the sure evolution of his style, with the film being best remembered for an ingeniously crafted chase through a parking garage that was captured in a single take.

It gets rather silly in the final stretch, especially as its homages to Scorsese's Taxi Driver become wildly excessive, but for the most part Death Sentence delivers the grisly-if-flawed goods.
