Though Leto only has a small part in it, David Fincher's Fight Club is arguably the career high-point of just everyone who appeared in it.

A delirious, ambitious, stunningly directed mystery drama, Fincher's filmmaking has never been more daring or dangerous, and the focal pairing of Edward Norton and Brad Pitt is absolutely sublime.

Leto plays the minor but memorable role of Angel Face, an uncharacteristically good-looking member of Project Mayhem who promptly gets his countenance beaten into a bruised pulp by Norton's protagonist.

While not a particularly flashy part for Leto, it certainly helped put him on the map and foster a working relationship with Fincher which of course continued into Panic Room.
