Every Jon Favreau Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
7. Iron Man 2 (2010)
Unfortunately for Favreau, Iron Man 2 basically took everything that worked about its predecessor and suck out all of the joy and the expert crafting. It feels suspiciously like the director is on autopilot, trying to outdo the first film by bringing in a couple of villains, bigger set pieces and more action.
The problem is the villains end up being half-cooked, the set pieces hollow and the action inauthentic and lacking any real stakes. Obviously Robert Downey Jr is exceptional as Tony Stark, and the introduction of his personal problems is a smart move, but most of the films good ideas are fudged or unearned.
Thankfully, Shane Black got the franchise back on track with Iron Man 3, but even that wouldnt have been workable without the foundation laid for Stark and Rhodeys dynamic and Tonys psychological vulnerability in Favreaus sequel.
