If you€™re wondering why there€™s a new Jumanji remake coming, a lot of it has to do with the fact that two very similar movies - both written by Chris Van Allsburg - delighted family audiences 10 years apart.

Zathura might not be remembered in quite the same glowing terms as Jumanji, but it is entertaining for precisely the same reasons: it€™s full of imagination and wonder, and it€™s anchored by the same human relationships. With Favreau€™s particular eye for those dynamics, what could have been an exercise in hollow CGI rendering is a relatable, charming story about sibling rivalry.

It feels delightfully nostalgic, and though it made less than its budget back it€™s extremely difficult not to like it.
