Every Jurassic Park Movie Ranked Worst To Best
3. Jurassic Park III (2001)
Many of the flaws plaguing The Lost World can also be found in Jurassic Park III, which continues the franchise's evolution from mysterious and beautiful thriller to silly, action-heavy cash-grab. Even so, this might be its most underrated instalment.
Following Sam Neill's Dr. Alan Grant as he works to help a heartbroken couple find their missing son, the threequel is the shortest and most violent of the original trilogy, basking in its surprisingly high body count and B-movie inspirations. Yes, the wonder of the original is long gone, but III's energy is exciting in its own way.
Directed by Joe Johnston, the film particularly soars where its refreshing storyline is concerned. Unlike every other film in the franchise, it's the only one that doesn't have an evil company working in the shadows, giving the dinosaurs ample opportunity to wreak havoc undeterred.
Jurassic Park III, all told, is the kind of movie that holds up terribly when compared to its most beloved predecessors - especially when you remember the bizarre talking raptor and abrupt ending - but taken on its own merits is actually very fun. Not high art, but it gets the job done.
