Every Jurassic Park Movie Ranked Worst To Best
1. Jurassic Park (1993)
In the end, though - as is the case with many franchises - the first is still the best. Released in 1993 to become the first film to ever gross over $1 billion at the box office, Jurassic Park defined a generation and changed blockbuster cinema forever.
But Jurassic Park is more than its creative achievements. Watched through modern eyes, it remains a thriller of great intelligence and care, more interested in building genuine tension and crafting scenes of wondrous invention than it is with talking down to audiences with dull action and one-note characters.
Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and the late Richard Attenborough are all on exceptional form as academics torn by the moral implications of bringing dinosaurs back to life, whilst Spielberg's direction allows them each to thrive as authentic characters amongst scenes of exhilarating intensity.
It's impossible to talk about the first film without also mentioning John Williams' rousing score or the animatronic dinosaurs, which still appear real to this day.
Jurassic Park is the kind of rare masterpiece where everything, from the acting to the effects, the themes to the music, comes together to create a perfect vision. It's never been topped, and quite frankly never will be.
