Every Liam Neeson Action Movie Ranked Worst To Best

13. The Marksman (2021)

Liam Neeson Taken 2
Open Road Films

One of Neeson's best strengths as an action star is how, when the material is on his side, he's able to let you know he's both dangerous and haunted. Such is the case with The Marksman, a deeply flawed and self-serious drama that nonetheless gives Neeson something interesting to work with.

Pushing seventy and noticeably not as spry as he was once, he leans heavily into the role of a weary Border Patroller who finds himself protecting a young boy from the Mexican cartel, and gives the movie an edge worth sticking around to see even when the action and sloppy political undertones rear their ugly heads.

It's by no means an acting masterclass -- a formulaic script and one-note obstacles make sure of that -- but The Marksman creates a strong case for Neeson's ability to make even the worst film worth suffering through. Had it been made with more care, you can see it being one of his best.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
